Anton Marrero

Founder of Softline and Intecracy Group

Anton Marrero trained as a systems engineer at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and taught Artificial Intelligence there in 1991. Economic difficulties led him to leave teaching and move into business. In 1995, he and Alisher Ramazanov founded Softline in Kyiv. Yuriy Syvytsky joined them later.

The founders were KPI graduates and staff members who studied artificial intelligence at the Department of Automation of Energy Processes and Systems Design. This experience shaped the company’s approach: designing systems and models of how enterprises operate, as well as writing software.

Timeline

The company’s journey

Softline’s first contract was an automated system for the Agricultural Commodities Exchange. The team worked in rooms behind its trading floor. Its second client was Khlib Ukrainy: in 1996, Softline built one of Ukraine’s first integrated information systems for the organisation. Work with Ukrposhta began in 1997.

In 1996, the company won its first major tender. In 1998, it developed the Megapolis business platform, followed the next year by information-system projects in the public sector.

Investment from the United States in 2000 supported growth. By 2007, the team numbered nearly 1,000 and had its own training centre. The crisis of 2008–2009 prompted a new way of working with U.S. and EU partners through Intecracy Group. After restructuring, Softline focused on large infrastructure projects.

Brand history

Recovery of the softline.ua domain

Ukraine’s Softline LLC has operated under this name since 1995. In 2002, a Russian company with a similar name registered the softline.ua domain for itself through cybersquatting.

We immediately began legal proceedings to recover the domain. The years spent defending our name became a separate chapter in the brand’s history. The proceedings lasted 17 years, but we won, while also displacing the Russian competitor from the Ukrainian market.

In the second half of 2019, joint work by legal and technical specialists enabled the Ukrainian company to recover softline.ua and operate fully under the Softline brand!
